This is the one people book when they want the ride to actually go somewhere. It leaves Lancaster County entirely, crosses a river and a state line, and ends with your feet on a dock at the top of the Chesapeake. You come back having been somewhere, not having circled.
The driving is the good kind: long open two-lane through farmland where you can settle into a rhythm, then the Conowingo crossing, which is the single widest view of the whole day. Slingshots are open-air with no roof and no doors, and this route is built to take advantage of that, water and sky on both sides for a good stretch of it.
Good for: bachelorette and birthday groups, or anyone who wants the day to end with crabs and a dock rather than another restaurant table.

Vehicle walkthrough for every driver, seat and mirror setup, and the part most groups do not expect: the hand signals. Riding as a group of two to four cars on open road works because everyone knows the same three signals before anyone starts an engine. Budget about 30 minutes here.
The warm-up leg. Two-lane through working farmland toward the Susquehanna, with light traffic and long sight lines. This is where a group that has never driven together finds its spacing, and where most people stop white-knuckling the wheel and start enjoying the car.
The Susquehanna at its most dramatic, crossing the dam itself with the river spread wide on both sides. We pull off at the overlook. From late fall through winter this is one of the best bald eagle viewing spots on the East Coast, with dozens of birds working the water below the dam. Good photo stop regardless of the season.
The short, satisfying leg where Pennsylvania becomes Maryland and the landscape shifts from farm country to bay country. Roads open up and start pointing downhill toward the water.
The anchor stop and the reason the route exists. Maryland blue crab, steamed and seasoned, at the head of the Chesapeake Bay in a town built around the water. (Woody's Crab House is an independent restaurant, not affiliated with us; we just like it.) Park the group together, take the photo, then plan on about 90 minutes off the vehicles. Food and drink are on you, not folded into the tour price.
Optional and usually taken. North East Community Park sits at the mouth of the river with a pier out into the bay, a few minutes from the restaurant. Worth the stretch before an hour back in the seat.
A different road home rather than a retrace, back up through Cecil County into southern Lancaster County. Timed so the last stretch runs in late-afternoon light, which is the best hour of the day to be in one of these cars.
Return, hand over the keys, done. Most groups are back somewhere between five and six hours after they left.

Late fall through winter, the water below Conowingo draws one of the densest gatherings of bald eagles anywhere on the East Coast. Bring a camera between November and February.

No. The Mason-Dixon Line is a state border. Bring the same driver license you would bring to any rental.
Yes, the dam is a scheduled stop. The eagle activity below it peaks from late fall through winter, and the overlook is the best group-photo spot on the route in any season.
Late spring through October. Crab season peaks in the warm months when Woody's is at its best, and the bay stays comfortable in an open-air vehicle well into the fall.
